Seiko was founded in 1881 in Japan and has an incredibly rich history of watchmaking.
History The story of Seiko began in 1881, when a 21 year old entrepreneur, Kintaro Hattori, opened a shop selling and repairing watches and clocks in central Tokyo. Eleven years later, in 1892, he established the 'Seikosha' factory. In 1913 Kintaro made the first Made in Japan wristwatch, in a time where pocketwatches were the norm. It wasn't until 1924 when the first watch under the name Seiko came to be, after an earthquake caused the Seikosha headquarters to burn down. Rising from the ashes of this disaster, was Seiko. Seiko continued to be the first in Japan in watchmaking, they produced the first chronograph watch in 1964, and the first diving watch in 1965.
Modern Times Most notably, Seiko was the first in the world to introduce the quartz watch, which, as we know, changed the watch industry completely. Seiko has always been a frontrunner regarding watch inovation, even introducing watches such as a TV watch, voice recorder watch and a computer function watch. In 1998 they returned to their roots with their first mechanical timepiece in twenty years. Innovations such as the, unique to Seiko, Spring Drive technology continued to secure their legacy of leadership in the watchindustry.
