Beveled and highly polished edges, looks to me like black-polishing, perlage on the front and cote de Tokyo on the rear side of the movement makes it very pleasent to the eye and the blued silicon escapement-wheel makes it technological very interesting, because only a few luxury brands are using this kind of escapement wheel. There are many videos on the internet, showing the manufacturing process of the F8 Movement, which remained completely hand assembled.
DESIGN
The apperance of this watch can be a little bit controversial, because there's a lot of Chinese skeleton watches on the market but this one has absolutely nothing to do with that. This watch is playful, but not kitschy and the quality makes a huge difference. Blued, yes, thermal blued hands with a curved tip on the minute hand, flawless highly polished and finely satin-finished indices on a sparkling, champagne colored dial ring, polished case with nice finished lugs and a thick padded, dark brown Cordovan strap with a polished three-fold-clasp.
CONCLUSION
If there was a prominent Swiss brand name on it, it would cost a five figure Euro amount. If you're not into flashy brands, but looking for a real high-quality watch, from a company with a heritage in watchmaking, where the manufacturer spend money on the product and not on marketing, so this watch is for you and worth every single penny. The Orient Star RE-AZ0004S is an expertly crafted timepiece that is designed to capture attention. With it's partly skeletonised dial and display caseback, this watch offers you a watchmakers view of the beautiful In-House Orient Cal. F8B62 Mechanical hand-wound movement, made in Japan. This movement is also regulated to a tighter standard (+15/-5 seconds per day rather than the usual +25/-15) and has a power reserve of 70 hours.
The watch is a lovely watch to wear every day as it has all the basics you can wish for such as sapphire glass (with a SAR coating, which is much more transparent than normal AR coatings), a fine cordovan leather strap and 50m water resistance but combines this with a dynamic design that will never grow old.
The stainless steel 38.8mm case and textured dial are contrasted with blue hands and silver hour markings, which also add a touch of class to the design. The dial is protected by sapphire glass (with a SAR coating, which is much more transparent than normal AR coatings). The 70-hour power reserve indicator ensures a long power reserve and that you are always aware of when the watch needs to be wound. The watch is finished with a sophisticated cordovan leather strap on a folding clasp that forms a natural curve to ensure comfort and durability.
